A lucky find!

Image
Removed the interior sides today.  Also removed the blower the previous owner put in.  In that process I found some keys in the blower tube run through the floor.  One of them fits the ignition so I now have 2 keys for the boat!

More disassembly

Made a little progress over the last few days but mostly today.  Removed the gas tank, all the bright work on the decks, the windshield (its real glass), the steering wheel and the vinyl trim on the top edge.  I have to clean that up which is going to be a pain since it's so old it's liquefied in some places.  Really nasty stuff. I also marked the wedges for the engine and removed the exhaust pipe bolts so that I don't break the cast iron fittings.  I set up the chain hoist to pull the engine but it's been a nightmare.  When I took it out of the box the hand chain was jammed so I dissembled it to fix it.  Once that was straight, the lifting chain jammed after lifting about 6 inches.  Haven't been able to free it.  It lifts about 8 feet and it was shipped to me all the way down. I am ready to pull the engine.  The last pic shows the stand I built to hold it. A few photos for you:

Engine disconnection

We came to the lake to isolate ourselves for awhile from the craziness of the city. Continued disassembly and labeled all the connections. It takes a lot of time to figure out how things work/come apart. And there is so much to do I find myself working on flooring, then disconnecting wires, then start to remove the prop. But one thing leads to another and when I started to remove the prop, I discovered it would be easier if I removed the rudder first. So I started that but I'm unsure exactly how that comes apart. I've focused on the motor and believe I'm ready to lift it out. But first I have to build a stand for it. I have a dolly of sorts that I'm planning to use but it needs to be beefed up to handle an engine of this size.   As I disconnected wires I label them and then photographed them so I'll know where they go.

Interior Removal

Started removing the interior seats and flooring. I'm bagging the screws and taking a boat load of pictures to document how it all goes together. (or came apart)
